Our stud(s)
- last changes dd. 19-01-2012 -

Since our start we have also two or more studs in our cattery. We accept also matings for them from other females than our own but we don't accept each female. So we check a number of things as their pedigree, how often a similar mating has been done already, we also check the possible risks regarding the health and we check the several tests without we never accept a visiting lady, and so on.... That makes that our answer is not always a 'yes' but sometimes we refuse the lady fore which a mating is asked. To say yes or no we always wish to get a copy of the pedigree before we give an answer. A mating can always be refused without giving any reason (see also our contract (dutch language) for this and other rules, if you read our language. The text look long but in fact it are the usual rules extended with some specific rules about what to do when there happens something during the period that the partners are together.
We keep our studs separated from our ladies, but not from eachother. That means that they are never alone. However many people thinks that this should be asking for problems we can assure you this has been never a real problem with our guys. Ofcourse they have troubles sometimes (as usual in every housekeeping), but it has been never too hard and never been reason to separate them longer than 5 minutes. That last however is mostly not really needed because at such moments they don't want to see eachother and each one is looking for his another place in their appartment.

Available stud(s)
Qiomme's Camry van de Ravottersgaarde Qiomme's Camry van de Ravottersgaarde
Qiomme's Camry van de Ravottersgaarde For friends and the girls passing by he's called 'Camry'. Camry is born in a litter of three kittens, all blue and consisting of two boys and a girl. Camry became a nice warm blue boy with an 'classic type'. He's charming and patient, but knows very well his rights and how to handle the visiting ladies. His mother is 'Kronhede Qiomme', his father is Ephani's Garuda van de Ravottersgaarde. As all our studs also Camry is limited for mating.
Even as the studs before him he has to live in our 'appartment for spraying studs'. We get soon a new ruddy boy and will try to get them together and to become friends.
Camry is father of a couple of litters of which a couple of kittens are showed with good results already.
In case you are interessed to know more about this boy, or you like to use his services for a nice lady, feel free to contact us....

Retired!
Nile Red Rock
Rocky -Nile Red Rock- The right name for this Red Rock! This very stable male is neutered and lives with us in the family now. It is the first male in many years we have been lucky to keep a male between our Abyssinian ladies without any problem. Rocky (as we call him usualy) is most near Crocodile Dundee but then as cat! His newest incident was breaking the glasses from an old friend of the family. Ofcourse an accident and it was only while he tried to show his love for the lady with this headbutt, but her glasses were broken and our insurance compagny had too pay a lot! A 'headbutt' by a cat mostly is tender but in case of Rocky your eyes are nearly shaking out of your head! Bandah (the leading cat in our cattery) accept him without problem as long as he's respecting her leadership.

Why to have studs, is such necessary?
Why you have to keep a stud as this mostly give a lot of troubles? Simply because it is necessary for a breed that there are enough males available to keep it healthy! Males however are (if not neutered) mostly spraying and have a dominant behaviour. Beside the females often don't accept this or contrary start to fight for the best place at his side to become the 'first lady' (cats look often like humans, isn’t it?). This commotion in a group of cats however can be dissastreous for the health of the group!
All this will be a reason to make it sometimes necessary to create a good 'own' accommodation for your stud(s), or -when this is not possible- to neuter him. Unfortunately you cannot evade this anytime.

What to care about, choosing a stud?
The moment you have to choose which male is the best for your female you have to take care of the pedigree to be sure that the partners will fit without to much risk. When you know the Catfancy, most times it will be easy to find a good stud. If you don't, you have more chance to get any problem or disappointment and it is better to contact a good Club, a well-known breeder or if that is possible the breeder of your female.

It is important that:

It is to prefer if: A lot to pay attention to? Many unknown things? Don’t hesitate to talk to people, who can help you or talk with people of a good catclub for this breed.

Rules and conditions.
With a mating you also have to look after some rules, mostly demanded by the owner of the stud. You can accept it or leave it and find another address. In some cases you can negotiate. Think well when you ask for conditions, which endanger the safety of the cats (for example using the same leucose-test as before the last mating!). This can also be done by others and this way your girl can become a victim of something awful getting through!!!

If your'e interested in the contract for the use of our males, please feel free to mail or call us!

Contact

Abyssinian and Somali Club.
In the Dutch spoken countries you can contact the members of SAN for the general advises. Send your E-mail to san@somaby.com or phone us at ++31 228 51 29 20
If possible we will be pleased to advise you....
For more advises (for example a breeding advice for your Somali or Aby) it’s mostly a better idea to become a member/subscriber of a breeding club in your own country.
For people however which can read Dutch we like to advice a subscription to the magazine 'Ticked'. You are alowed than also to use services as the 'kitten-info' (help to find good addresses for your kittens), 'Escort-service' (a list of available studs) and 'Fokadvies', a breeding-advice to help you make a good choice to find a stud.
Read more about it on the own site of SAN and Ticked or you can mail your subscription directly to ticked@somaby.com.

More and more stud-owners put their conditions on paper. A good case, when the agreement is not a ‘strangle-contract’! Sometimes people make a lot of restrictions in it and beside that you have to pay also a lot of money for it. Of course you have to pay for a mating, at this moment it costs in Holland between € 350,00 and 600,00 (sometimes a bit more or less). You also have to count the costs of the test, transport and you name it...
